A fierce clash has taken place between Saad supporters and Zubayer supporters centered around Biswa Ijtema Maidan. So far, 3 people have been killed and nearly a hundred worshippers have been injured. The clash began at around 3:15 am on Wednesday.
The identities of the deceased are: 1. Amirul Islam Bachchu (70), Kishoreganj. 2. Belal (60), Dakshin Khan, Dhaka. 3. Tajul Islam (70), Bogra.
Notable among the injured are: A. Rouf (55), B. Bariya. Mojibur Rahman (58), Mymensingh. A. Hannan (60), Gazipur. Zahurul Islam (38), Tongi. Shahed (44), Chittagong. Faisal (28), Savar. Anwar (50), Narayanganj.
Sources said that when the Sad supporters advanced towards the Ijtema Maidan from the west bank of the Turag River in the early hours of the morning, the Zubayr supporters pelted them with bricks. In retaliation, the Sad supporters also attacked. At this time, fierce clashes broke out between the two sides. Many vehicles were vandalized in the clashes.
Muaz bin Noor, the leader of the Sad supporters, said in a video message, "We are now in control of the Ijtema Maidan. One of us was martyred and many were injured by the Zubayr supporters." He also claimed that several Zubayr supporters were arrested in the maidan with weapons.
The injured in the clashes have been admitted to various hospitals, including Tongi Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital. Hafizul Islam, an employee of the hospital's emergency department, said that the condition of several of the casualties is critical.
Ashraful Islam, an ambulance driver at Tongi Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital, said that a person named Belal died on the way to Dhaka. Sadpanti media coordinator Md. Sayem confirmed the death of a third person. It is feared that the number of casualties may increase.
The local administration is continuing to try to bring the situation under control.
