Former Prime Minister Imran Khan's Demand for Release and Government Resignation Sparks Unrest in Pakistan
Five people have been killed in the volatile situation in Pakistan, as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party's march towards Islamabad demanding the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and the government's resignation has turned chaotic.
According to security sources, on the Srinagar Highway, some miscreants rammed their vehicles into Ranger personnel, resulting in the deaths of four paramilitary troopers and one civilian. Five more paratroopers and two police officers were also injured in the incident.
Similar incidents during the PTI protest have already claimed the lives of four Rangers and two police officers. Dozens of police personnel have also been injured, with many of them reported to be in critical condition.
Considering the security risks, the military has been deployed in the restless Islamabad under Article 245 of the Constitution, with orders to crack down on any attempts to disturb the peace and terrorist activities.
The civilian casualty in the Srinagar Highway incident was also confirmed by the security sources. The bodies of the five deceased have been taken to the local PIMS hospital. A police officer at the hospital declined to comment when asked about the matter.
The unrest in Pakistan has escalated as Imran Khan's party continues to demand his release and the government's resignation, leading to clashes between protesters and security forces in the capital and other parts of the country.
